Bighorn Canyon National Recreation Area Visit on 3/1/06

By Mike Johnson

Just 60 miles east of Cody, you'll find the spectacular Bighorn Canyon National Recreation Area . The area includes the 50-mile long Bighorn Canyon, wild Mustang horses, Bighorn Sheep and beautiful scenery. This is a fee area ($5 for a day pass) but is free if you own the annual National Parks Pass ($50). Enjoy the following photos from our trip there on 3/1/06.

Explanation sign about the wild Mustangs pictured next

The horses aren't afraid of humans as long as you don't approach them

The setting was spectacular

Mustangs look like normal horses until you notice the
markings on their legs, triangular face and their scruffier
appearance

This wild horse looks just like an 1870's Indian pony

This wild horse was right on the side of the road

The Bighorn Canyon is spectacular

Margie is pretty spectacular too

The canyon is about 900 feet deep at its deepest point
