This now empty space between Siedel's and Indian Territory near 12th & Sheridan will be filled with a new building this spring, says owner Margaret Neville. The new building will include a partial basement and one story. Neville says she already has four people waiting to rent the new building.
Information from the Park County Historical Society says the building was constructed in the late 1890's making it older than the Irma Hotel (1902). The Cody Downtown Historic Walking Tour describes the building as "an early toggery (tailer shop) owned by Bill Loewer, a later mayor in Cody. He advertised cleaning, pressing, repairing and hat blocking in addition to his tailoring services. It became part of the Log Cabin Bar and Cafe in the 1930's."
Neville said she and her husband Keith agonized over what to do with the building but said its poor condition
pretty much forced their hand. The Neville's own several downtown buildings and
Diamond 88 Buffalo Ranch Building Stood Here have been big Cody boosters for
many years.
Neville adds that she's optimistic that the several vacant Sheridan Avenue storefronts will be filled by summer. She says that some of these vacancies already have newly signed long-term leases but the information just hasn't been announced. Having a waiting list for her new building only fuels her optimism.
