They're back! Cowboys from all over the world head to Cody, Wyoming to participate in the Cody Nite Rodeo. The longest running consecutive rodeo performances in the country, Cody is known as the "Rodeo Capital of the World." Performances begin at 8:00 p.m. June 1 and continue nightly through August 31. Special kids' activities include clown face painting, a mechanical bull, Tootie the miniature horse and Hollywood the live bull. Covered grandstands, paved parking and concession stands make attending the Cody Nite Rodeo both easy and enjoyable. No reservations are required and tickets are available at the Cody Country Information Center, most Cody businesses or at the gate.
Come experience the music, colors and energy of the 25th Annual Plains Indian Museum Powwow in the Robbie Powwow Garden adjacent to the Buffalo Bill Historical Center. Dancers, drum groups and artisans from the Northern Plains gather to celebrate the vibrant cultural traditions and histories of the people of the Plains. Competitive dance categories include traditional, jingle dress, fancy, grass, team dancing, tiny tots, chicken dance, and an elder's recognition. Men, women and children participate in the various age groups. All of the dancers and drumers compete for over $15,000 in cash and prizes.
Stubborn as an old mule? Your chance to see a mule up close and personal is at the Ralston Rendezvous and Mule Days in downtown Ralston, Wyoming. A parade, mule rodeo and sale are all part of this fun, unique event on June 14-17.
June is the month for Cowboy Collectibles and Auctions, Gun Shows and Old West Memorabilia events. The Winchester Gun Show is June 16-18 and the 17th Annual Original Cody Old West Auction is June 21. The Antique Arms Show takes place June 23-25. The 17th Annual Old West Show and Auction is June 22-24 and has been featured on HGTV's "Flea Market Finds with the Kovels". All shows taking place in different locations, there is something for everyone interested in guns and western memorabilia.
