According to a source who recently visited the Old Faithful area and inquired about the webcam, the camera still sits in a box awaiting approval of an installation plan from top management. The plan reportedly involves placing the webcam in a tree and running electrical and Internet connections in a trench from the temporary visitor center.
No word on why an inside location such as the lobby of the Old Faithful Lodge (where electricity and Internet would presumably already be available) could not be used.
This reporter has written Yellowstone and offered to become the corporate sponsor that will pay for the immediate reinstallation of the webcam and its future expenses. I have received no response.
