Fourth Annual Canine Disc Championship Results
Cody, WY - July 7, 2002 - Twenty two owner/dog teams competed in Cody's Fourth Annual Canine Disc Championships held on July 7 at Glendale Park. Participants came from as far away as Story, Billings, Meeteetse, Powell and Wapiti. Over 150 spectators enjoyed the competition.
After the two regulation rounds were completed, two teams - Mike Johnson/Millie and Karen Godinez/Alex - tied with 20.5 points each. A one-throw tie breaker was conducted to determine a winner. Mike Johnson and Millie won the event with 2.5 point catch after Karen Godinez and Alex scored zero on their throw.
The Johnson's have been organizing the contest for the past four years and this is the first time Mike and Millie have won a competition. Millie is a five-year-old Border Collie that had been an abandoned stray when Johnson took her in. Many of the other dogs in the contest have been adopted from the Park County Humane Society, proving that you don't have to go farther than the local animal shelter to find an athletic best friend.
The contest was sponsored by Cody Trolley Tours, Shoshone Recreation District and Skyhoundz.com.
