"GO!"

Millie sprints toward six-point territory upon hearing the word "GO!" Without a second glance at Mike, she goes deep then cuts crisply into a crossing pattern that would be the envy of any NFL quarterback/receiver team.

The Billings, Montana contest was Millie's first ever. She competed against 27 other dogs and finished with an impressive score of 45 points, earning 7th place. She started the first round by making four 6-point catches in a row before dropping the fifth pass. The second round featured her catching three 6-point passes, dropping one and then grabbing a 3-point catch from a lame pass by Mike.

Just two more 6-point catches and Millie would have won her first tournament. The most successful person/dog teams are perfectly in sync, exhibiting a strong "marriage between the thrower and the dog."

Short practice sessions of five minutes in length, several times a day are the best way to develop this marriage. But just like professional athletes, dogs and owners can be great in practice but then fall short of their potential on "game day." That's one reason why every contest is exciting and unpredictable.
